Ibrahima Konaté (born May 25, 1999 in Paris ) is a French football player . The central defender has been under contract with German Bundesliga club RB Leipzig since July 2017 .

Career

society

Konaté began playing football in his youth at Paris FC and moved from there to the youth department of the second division club FC Sochaux in 2014 . Here he received his first professional contract two years later in 2016 and played twelve second division games in the 2016/17 season in which he scored a goal. He was also in the quarter-finals of the French Cup against AS Monaco , which the team only lost on penalties.

In summer 2017 he moved to Germany and signed a five-year contract with Bundesliga club RB Leipzig . Konaté played his first Bundesliga game on October 1, 2017 against 1. FC Köln . He scored his first competitive goal for Leipzig in the third qualifying round for the 2018/19 Europa League against CS Universitatea Craiova .

National team

On November 20, 2014, Konaté made his debut for the French U-16 national team under coach Laurent Guyot . In twelve games he scored one goal for the U16s. On October 20, 2015, he made his debut for the U-17 national team in the U-17 European Championship qualifier against Northern Ireland. Konaté is currently running for the French U20s under coach Bernard Diomède .

Konaté is considered a type of player who would be described as a street footballer . According to his former coach Ralph Hasenhüttl, his game is mainly shaped by his physique.
