Konrad Laimer (born May 27, 1997 in Salzburg ) is an Austrian football player on the position of midfielder . He has been under contract with RB Leipzig in the German Bundesliga since 2017 and is an Austrian national player.
Career
society
Konrad Laimer started playing football as a youth at USC Abersee and in 2007 moved to the youth department of FC Red Bull Salzburg . There he went through all youth teams until 2014, until Adi Hütter brought him to the combat team in the summer of 2014 at the age of 17. He made his debut in professional football for the Red Bull Salzburg farm team , FC Liefering , for which he was also eligible to play. In the home game on August 1, 2014 against SC Austria Lustenau , he was in the starting line-up and was substituted in the 59th minute. He played his first competition game for Red Bull Salzburg on September 28, 2014, when he came on for Alan in stoppage time in the away game against SK Rapid Wien . This was followed by further appearances in the two highest leagues in Austria as well as in the ÖFB Cup and in the Europa League against Dinamo Zagreb and Astra Giurgiu .
In the cup semi-final against Austria Wien on April 20, 2016 , he scored his first two goals in the first team after his comeback after a two-week injury break.
For the 2017/18 season he moved to Germany to RB Leipzig , where he received a contract valid until June 2021, which was extended early in February 2020 to 2023.
National team
Laimer has been working for Austrian youth selections since 2012. He took part in the U-19 European Championship in 2014 , in which they were eliminated in the semifinals against their peers from Germany and together with the Serbian team they finished third in the tournament. This qualified the team for the U-20 World Cup , which was held in New Zealand in 2015.
In May 2017, he was appointed to the senior national team for the first time . In June 2019 he finally made his debut for the senior national team when he was in the starting line-up in the European Championship qualifier against Slovenia and was replaced by Stefan Ilsanker in the 82nd minute .
