Connor Cooke Lade (born November 16, 1989 in Livingston , New Jersey ) is a former American football player in the position of midfielder and defender who was under contract with the MLS franchise New York Red Bulls for his entire career .

Club career

Career start at home

Connor Lade was born on November 16, 1989 as the son of Dennis and Maura Lade in the township of Livingston in the US state of New Jersey, where he and his three siblings Micaela, Kieran and Brenna grew up mainly in Convent Station . At an advanced age he came to Morristown High School , where he was also active as a football player, but also as an indoor athlete and baseball player. His career as a high school soccer player has always been crowned with success, he was letterman for all four years , led the team for two years as team captain and was in the all-conference first-team selection for three years , as well in the all-state selection. He was also the MVP of his team for a period of three years and played in the Super-Y -ODP national team in 2006 and 2007 . He also played for the U-18 academy team of the New York Red Bulls , which have their training center in the same county as Morristown High School, and was a member of the local youth football club Morris United SC as a child .

Transfer to St. John's University (New York)

After joining the New York Red Bulls Academy in December 2007, he decided the following year to go to St. John's University (New York) , where he majored in sports management and also in the men's soccer team the St. John's Red Storm sports division . In his freshman year, Lade became a regular player in his team and started in all 24 of his missions, which made him the player with the third most minutes of play on his team. During these 24 championship appearances, the defensive player also contributed three assists for his teammates. With his team he competed in the NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship 2008 , where, after winning the knockout phase of Regional 3 in the national semifinals against the later NCAA champions Maryland Terrapins , the sports department of the University of Maryland, College Park , just eliminated from the current tournament. In 2009, his sophomore year, long-term coach David Masur , who has been the head coach of the St. John's Red Storm men's soccer team since 1991, used him in all 21 possible missions from the start. With 2,036 playing minutes, he was able to look back on most playing minutes in his team in the past season, in which he also contributed a goal for the first time. He also converted a penalty against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the Big East Men's Soccer Tournament 2009 , which St. John's Red Storm won this year. In the end, it was enough for Connor Lade to vote for the Big East All Tournament team .

He spent his junior year 2010 again as a regular, where he was one of three players on his team who were on the pitch in all 18 championship games from the start; He also played through all the games over the full length of the game and thus came up with a total of 1,668 minutes. Throughout the season he remained goalless himself, but was able to contribute an assist for his comrades in a 5-0 victory over the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights . Mainly because of his performances, Red Storm's back line was one of the strongest in the league. At the end of the season, Lade was elected to the NSCAA All Northeast Region Second Team and was in the All Big East Third Team . In his final senior year, which he spent as a central defender , like in 2010, he was again used in all 18 games of his team over the full playing time. With his help, among other things, he succeeded in winning the Big East Men's Soccer Tournament of 2011 , after which he was voted Most Outstanding Defensive Player of the tournament. He was also an All-Big-East-Second-Team and had a total of 81 championship appearances over his entire career in college soccer , 60 of which were consecutive. During his college career he was loyal to the New York Red Bulls and spent the free time at university in the academy or was a squad player for the reserve team New York Red Bulls NPSL , which at that time was the second team of the MLS franchise to play in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) participated.

Rapid breakthrough in professional football

On December 5, 2011, the major league soccer franchise New York Red Bulls announced that it had signed 22-year-old Connor Lade as the homegrown player rule . He made his professional debut on April 14, 2012 in a 2-2 draw against the San José Earthquakes , when he came on the lawn in the 59th minute for the injured Roy Miller . Under the Swede Hans Backe , he quickly advanced to a regular in the defensive ranks of his club in the highest North American football league and made 26 league appearances by the end of the 2012 season, 24 of which he played from the start, contributing three assists . He scored his first goal in professional football on May 29, 2012 in a 3-0 win over third division club Charleston Battery in the third round match of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup 2012 , in which the team, however, already beat them 3-1 in the following round Harrisburg City Islanders , another third division club, was eliminated from the current tournament. In the league, the team made it to a third place in the Eastern Conference , but was eliminated early in the subsequent MLS Cup playoffs against DC United . His first assist in the league came in a 1-0 win over New England Revolution when he helped Thierry Henry score. As an unannounced commitment, Lade ranked fifth in receiving the MLS Rookie of the Year Award at the end of the season; the award went to Austin Berry of Chicago Fire .

In the 2013 game year , he was injured by New York Red Bulls record player and current coach Mike Petke in only five championship games. After a last assignment in early July 2013, he was out of action until shortly before the end of the season due to a knee injury. At the same time, he spent some of his time with the reserve team with play operations in the MLS Reserve League , in which he started in two of a total of three missions. While he was eliminated from the current tournament in the fourth round of the 2013 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup with the pros in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup , he celebrated the league title in the Eastern Conference with the team and also ranked with the team in the overall table at the end of the season one. Furthermore, the franchise won the MLS Supporters' Shield for the first time due to this placement , although it was just eliminated in the semifinals against Houston Dynamo in the subsequent MLS Cup Playoffs , but still qualified for participation in the CONCACAF Champions League 2014/15 .

Also in Major League Soccer 2014 Lades missed out on the Red Bulls for the most part. He made only six league appearances as a substitute and was awarded to the NASL franchise New York Cosmos for the first time on July 28th . After four appearances in the second-rate football league, he was loaned to New York Cosmos again in mid-September 2014, whereupon he again completed four second division games. Connor Lade, who was actually used as a left defender and midfielder, was also used as a regular in the reserve team and sometimes even led it as captain. In July and August of the same year, he was also a participant in the MLS Homegrown Game , in which only homegrown players take part. In the later CONCACAF Champions League 2014/15, Connor Lade was also used and scored his only goal of the year in the 1-1 second leg draw against Montreal Impact . With the team he was eliminated from the current tournament as second in Group C. The Major League Soccer he finished with the team in fourth place in the Eastern Conference and made it in the subsequent play-offs to the Conference Finals, where they were narrowly defeated by the New England Revolution. In the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup 2014 , the team only fell out in the fifth round against league rivals Philadelphia Union .

In the following game year, 2015 , he was able to improve his playing record again and by the end of the season, when he finished first in the Eastern Conference and the overall table with the New York Red Bulls, he made 18 first division appearances, 16 of which he participated in from the start. However, he started the season again only as a substitute player and was only able to benefit from an injury to Chris Duvalls when he was called in as his substitute in July 2015. Especially for a 2-0 derby win against New York City FC , Connor Lade was widely praised , including by his coach Jesse Marsch , and his game there was called possibly the best of his MLS career to date. The short defender also played in two league games for the newly founded New York Red Bulls II team, the club's second team, previously known as the reserve team, in the third-rate United Soccer League , a league with professional status. He was also involved in the team's first win, a 4-1 win over Toronto FC II on April 4, 2015, in their early history. With the first division team he won the MLS Supporters' Shield for the second time in the history of the franchise and was again set for the group stage of the CONCACAF Champions League 2016/17 .

National team career

During his college career, Lade was first called up to a training camp for the US U-20 national team , but was ultimately not used for this. He was called up for the first time in January 2009 by Thomas Rongen to prepare for the CONCACAF U-20 championship in 2009 in Trinidad and Tobago . Further convictions followed, including in the summer of the same year. Due to his consistent performances in league action from the defenders, whose role model who also diminutive playing in the same position and this position was Philipp Lahm is on 6 January 2013. Jürgen Klinsmann in the senior national team of his home country in the Training Center of Carson , California , fetched. After missions in the US national team, he was called up to the 23-man squad again for a friendly international match against Canada at the end of the month , but was not used in this either.
