The following four nations applied to host the 2015 U-17 World Cup:

•  Chile
•  Russia
•  Tunisia
•  Wales

On March 3, 2011, FIFA decided that Chile would host the tournament.

Venues

The following eight cities will host the games of the 2015 U-17 World Cup:

• Chillán ( Estadio Municipal de Chillán Nelson Oyarzún Arenas )
• Concepción ( Estadio Municipal de Concepción )
• Coquimbo ( Estadio Municipal Francisco Sánchez Rumoroso )
• La Serena ( Estadio La Portada )
• Puerto Montt ( Estadio Regional de Chinquihue )
• Santiago ( Estadio Bicentenario de La Florida )
• Talca ( Estadio Fiscal de Talca )
• Viña del Mar ( Estadio Sausalito )

qualification

24 teams compete in the final round, with 23 places being awarded in the individual U-16 and U-17 continental championships. Host Chile are automatically qualified for the finals.

The European association UEFA has six starting places. These were awarded at the U-17 European Championship 2015 , which took place in Bulgaria in May 2015 .

Four teams from the Asian association AFC take part. These were determined at the U-16 Asian Cup 2014, which was held in Thailand from 6 to 20 September 2014 .

Four teams from CONCACAF , the football association of North America and the Caribbean, are participating. The 2015 CONCACAF U-17 Championship served as a qualifying tournament .

The African Football Association CAF has four starting places. The 2015 U-17 African Cup of Nations , which took place in Niger from February 15 to March 1, 2015, served as the qualifying tournament .

In addition to host Chile, four other teams from the South American association CONMEBOL are taking part, which were determined at the U-17 South American Championship 2015.

The Oceania Football Confederation identified its participant in the 2015 U-17 Oceania Championship.

Preliminary round

The groups were drawn on August 6, 2015 in Santiago de Chile . The preliminary round is held in six groups with four teams each. The six group winners and runners-up as well as the four best thirds in the group qualify for the round of 16.
