The Estadio Municipal de Concepción ( German Municipal Stadium of Concepción , full name: Estadio Municipal de Concepción "Alcaldesa Ester Roa Rebolledo" ) is a football stadium with an athletics facility in the Chilean city of Concepción . The football clubs CD Universidad de Concepción , Club Deportivo Arturo Fernández Vial and Deportes Concepción play their home games here. It currently holds 30,448 spectators, with the tiers fully seated.

history

The municipal stadium was built from 1959 to 1962 and opened on September 16 of that year. The aim was to host the 1962 World Cup . Ultimately, however, the stadium was not taken into account. In 1987, games of the junior soccer world championship were played here. Four years later, two group matches of the 1991 Copa America took place in Concepción. In 2010 the stadium was named after the late ex-mayor of the city, Ester Roa Rebolledo.

The venue was renovated from 2013 to 2015. The costs of around 30 billion CLP are covered by the regional government and the Chilestadios investment program of the Instituto Nacional de Deportes (IND). The venue was adapted to the requirements of FIFA for international matches. Among other things, the grandstands were renewed and the gaps in the upper tiers of the stadium curves were closed, the seating was renewed and the tiers roofed over and a new floodlight system was installed. The natural turf playing field was underlaid with a drainage system and turf heating . Two video walls with a size of 28 square meters each were installed under the roof in the curves . The new floodlights were tested for the first time on May 20, 2015.
