Awards
Caio (Brazil) was honored as the best player ahead of Dani (Portugal) and Joaquin Irigoytia (Argentina). The golden shoe for the most successful goalscorer went to Joseba Etxeberria (Spain) with seven goals . The second best scorer was the Brazilian Caio (5 goals). Dani , Nuno Gomes (both Portugal), Sebastian Rozental (Chile) and Mark Viduka (Australia) scored four goals each . The fair play prize went to the team from Japan (5 yellow cards in four games).
Others
The game between the Netherlands and Honduras in Group C ended prematurely, with fewer than seven players on the side of Honduras with ten minutes to go. Referee Masayoshi Okada has already sent off four Honduras players. A fifth Hondurian was injured and unable to continue playing, but the coach was unable to replace him as Honduras had already run out of substitutes. The Netherlands' 7-1 victory over Honduras was the first official game in a FIFA competition to be abandoned prematurely.
It became known that the international betting mafia first tried to influence the results of a soccer World Cup. A Malaysian man, a Thai man, an Indonesian and two Malaysian women were arrested. The Malaysian had $ 90,000 in his suitcase, apparently a bribe. The young players, mainly from Africa, were approached in hotel bars in order to inspire confidence with photos showing idols from your country with one of the gang members. Prostitutes were also assigned to the players. Players from Portugal, Cameroon and Burundi reported being promised up to $ 1,000. It could not be confirmed whether the Netherlands - Honduras game described above was rigged.
