Marco Küntzel (born January 22, 1976 in Grabow ) is a former German soccer player and today's soccer coach .
Career
Küntzel began his professional career at Hansa Rostock . Through the stations Union Berlin and SV Babelsberg , he finally got into the 1st Bundesliga with Borussia Mönchengladbach . From there he moved to Arminia Bielefeld .
The trained striker is known, among other things, for his tireless commitment and his two-footed ability, which enables him to play in almost any offensive position. The so-called four - pack went down in history when Küntzel scored four goals in a game by Arminia Bielefeld against VfL Osnabrück . Nevertheless, he has the reputation of a "chance death" because he always misses the last goal instinct in a promising position.
During his time at Arminia Bielefeld he achieved cult status with many fans, among other things because the then coach Uwe Rapolder replaced him in a game and replaced him shortly afterwards because Küntzel was wearing the wrong shoes. A fan group made a name for itself by singing to the melody of the song “You are my sunshine”: “You are my Küntzel, my only Küntzel, you make me happy, when skies are gray. Please do not take my Küntzel away ... "
After his engagement at Energie Cottbus he played for FC Augsburg in the 2nd Bundesliga . Then he was active in various amateur clubs. First at the Bayern league club TSG Thannhausen , where he scored a goal in his first competitive game, but was still unable to save TSG from relegation to the state league. He then hired as a player-coach at FC Pipinsried . In February 2012 Küntzel switched to the BC Aichach squad and from April of the same year worked temporarily as an assistant coach. In June 2012 ended his active career as a player and focuses exclusively on his coaching career.
Coaching career
On June 21, 2010 Küntzel signed a contract as a player-coach at FC Pipinsried. In summer 2011 Küntzel returned to FC Augsburg as an assistant coach and assisted Ilija Aracic with the U-19s. From April to June 2012 Küntzel worked as an assistant trainer at BC Aichach. Following this, Küntzel became head coach of the club that had been promoted to the Bayern League in the summer of 2012. After a short stopover at FC Affing, he trained the U-17 team at FC Königsbrunn from 2015 to 2016. In the 2018/19 season, Küntzel initially worked as an assistant coach under the former second division player Sören Dreßler at the Bayern division TSV Schwaben Augsburg . In October 2018, the regional league team FV Illertissen introduced Küntzel as the new head coach.
