The TSG Thannhausen is a sports club from the Swabian town Thannhausen .

history

The club was founded on January 1, 1890 under the name TV Thannhausen in Swabia as a gymnastics club . In the 1920s a soccer and an athletics department were established within the club . On May 3, 1941, gymnasts and other Thannhausen athletes volunteered to form the gymnastics and sports community of 1890 eV . TSG Thannhausen currently has the gymnastics departments (including Haidong Gumdo - sword fighting), children's sports school , athletics, table tennis and football.

The most successful department of the club is table tennis. Even before in the late 80s the men played in the national league. After these highlights with sometimes 100 spectators in the hall, it got a little quieter. In the meantime, TSG has become a flagship for its youth work across Bavaria. In 2016/17 the women were promoted to the regional league, the men to the 1st district league and the girls to be at the forefront of the Bavarian league. The teams are the youngest in their divisions. The 11-year-old Luna Brüller is not only a regular for the women, but also achieved success at the national level. The club was awarded the BTTV's "Active Club" mass sports prize 6 times.

The footballer is shaped by a successful past. They first attracted more attention in 1975 when they qualified for the first main round of the DFB Cup and lost 6-0 to Bayer 04 Leverkusen . In 1990 the club rose to the national league for the first time, which was then the second highest amateur class. After being relegated in the meantime, they were able to celebrate their return to the regional league in 2001 and 2004. In 2006, the club was on the verge of being promoted to the Bavarian League when it achieved a relegation place . After defeating FC Ingolstadt 04 in the final of the Bavarian Toto Cup four days before the promotion match and thus making it into the DFB Cup a second time, the decisive game for promotion against 1. FC Eintracht Bamberg was then lost. Just one year later, TSG Thannhausen qualified again for the relegation games. With the 3-0 win against SV Alemannia Haibach , the club made it to the top Bavarian league for the first time. This, meanwhile fifth highest class in the German soccer league system , belonged to the team until relegation in 2010. The footballers play in TSG Thannhausen Fußball GmbH, which, however, had to file for bankruptcy in May 2010 due to financial problems. Currently, they were relegated to the district league in 2016 from the Schwaben Süd district league. The once so successful youth department, up to the Bavarian leagues, is currently fighting to rebuild. This also briefly included national player Kevin Volland. Another highlight of the past was the Bavarian Cup victory in the hall for the team around playmaker Stefan Selig. The footballers are back in the main club, but have to bake smaller rolls again for financial reasons.

The athletes make it into the spotlight again and again. To be emphasized is Manuela Groß, who starts for Thannhausen and who regularly achieves successes at national level.

The gymnastics department is characterized above all by an extremely large range of popular sports. The own AirTrack is an absolute highlight that is often used at events. The Korean sword fight, Haidong Gumdo, is integrated into the department. Founder Werner Schmidt can also call himself European champion.

A KiSS (children's sports school) has also been part of the association for several years. In addition to the actual core business, the offering of qualified sports lessons under sports science management, the KiSS employs several employees in three school cooperations.
