Mustafa Doğan [ dohan ] (* 1. January 1976 in Yalvaç , Isparta , Turkey ) is a former German football player .

Athletic career

Club career

The Turkish-born defender, who came to Germany with his family as a two-year-old and grew up in Duisburg , played on the youth teams of TV Asberg and Bayer 05 Uerdingen and was coached by then coach Friedhelm Funkel at the age of 17 at FC Bayer 05 Uerdingen ( today KFC Uerdingen 05 ) appointed to the squad of the professional team. The defensive player made his debut for the first men's team of the 05er on the 33rd match day of the 1993/94 season, on May 15, 1994, in a 3-1 away win against Wuppertaler SV . Funkel replaced him in the 89th minute for Axel Jüptner . At the end of the season, the promotion to the first division was certain. He only made his breakthrough two years later. In the 1995/96 season Mustafa completed 28 Bundesliga games and was part of the regular squad of the KFC. At the end of the season it was clear that the club had to go to the 2nd division. Doğan made his debut in the German premier league in the preseason on November 19, 1994 against Werder Bremen . Since Doğan, who had gone through the youth national teams of the DFB , wanted to establish himself at a high level, he hoped to get involved in a top club in the Bundesliga. However, no German club wanted to raise the transfer fee of 2.3 million marks required by the Uerdingen - but the Turkish top club Fenerbahçe Istanbul , to which he moved in 1996.

His calculation of being able to recommend himself more strongly for the German senior national team with a regular place at a renowned club and increased presence in European club competitions , however, did not work out. At Fener he made the jump into the starting XI right away. Among his greatest successes in seven years with the yellow-dark blue team is the runner-up championship in 1998 and 2002 and the 2001 championship under coach Mustafa Denizli .

In 2003 Doğan returned to Germany, but his involvement with 1. FC Köln was not crowned with success. During the one year with Cologne, he scored his first and only Bundesliga goal in a total of 56 Bundesliga games. In the 1-0 win on October 18, 2003, he headed his team to success over SC Freiburg . After relegation in Cologne, he moved again to Turkey, this time to Beşiktaş Istanbul . Back in Istanbul, Doğan played for another three years in the Süper Lig. After the 2006/07 season, he ended his career. Finally, he was able to win the Ziraat Türkiye Kupası , the Turkish Cup, with the club in 2007 . In the final, the Istanbul team won 1-0 after extra time against Kayseri Erciyesspor . However, Dogan was only a spectator. The defensive player won the national cup competition with Beşiktaş last year. Shortly afterwards, the team also secured the Türkiye Süper Kupası (Turkish Supercup).

Selection bets

Between 1996 and 1998 Doğan, who had acquired German citizenship in 1992, played 19 games with the German U-21 team . At the European Championship finals in Romania in 1998 , the DFB youngsters around Michael Ballack and Lars Ricken finished in 5th place after their 1-0 defeat against Greece with two subsequent wins.

In 1999, the then DFB team boss Erich Ribbeck appointed him to the squad of the A-team for the Confederations Cup in Mexico due to a lack of personnel . Here Doğan came on June 30th in the third and final group game, in the 2-0 draw against the USA , as a substitute. Back then, the defender was substituted on for Jörg Heinrich shortly before half- time. A few months later, on October 9, 1999, he was substituted on again a minute before the end of the European Championship qualifier against Turkey (0-0). At the end of his career, these two senior national team games remained listed for him.

successes

Further career

After his career as a professional footballer, Doğan became a television commentator on Turkish television and pitched his tents in Istanbul.

In 2017 Doğan worked for a few months under the aegis of the football coach Mustafa Denizli at the Turkish second division Eskişehirspor as an assistant coach and reached the promotion playoff final , which they only lost on penalties and thus just missed promotion. He is also a member of the Eskişehirspor Association Council, membership number 1200.
