Axel Jüptner (born April 26, 1969 in Gemmrigheim , † April 24, 1998 in Bad Oeynhausen ) was a German football player .

Career

Axel Jüptner played in the Bundesliga for VfB Stuttgart (25 Bundesliga games from 1988 to 1991) before moving to Bayer Uerdingen (from 1992 to 1996 he played 88 first division games and scored 1 goal). There he played in the 1st and 2nd league. In November 1997 he went to the second division club FC Carl Zeiss Jena . On April 23, 1998 he suddenly collapsed unconscious after training in Jena and died one day later of the consequences of the heart attack caused by an undetected myocarditis.

family

Axel Jüptner was married to his wife Ines and had two children. After his death, the widow sued the FC Carl Zeiss team doctor for damages and compensation for pain and suffering. The doctor had classified Axel Jüptner as suitable for games despite his illness. The lawsuit was finally dismissed in April 2007.
