Denílson de Oliveira Araújo or briefly Denílson (born August 24, 1977 in Ipiranga , Brazil ) is a former Brazilian football player.

Career

society

Denilson began his career at São Paulo FC in 1994, from whose youth department he was appointed to the first team and after a short time asserted himself as a regular player. In 1998 he was signed by the Spanish club Betis Sevilla for the most expensive transfer of all time at the time, for the equivalent of 31.5 million euros. He signed a 10-year contract, which he did not fulfill because he changed clubs after 5 years. The association made the largest bad investment in its history. In 2005 he won the Spanish Cup Copa del Rey .

He then played for the French club Girondins Bordeaux . There the Brazilian scored the fastest goal in the French league after 11 seconds against OGC Nice. However, due to his high salary costs, his contract in Bordeaux could not be extended. This was followed by a guest appearance at Al-Nasr in Saudi Arabia before moving to the US league for FC Dallas in August 2007 .

In February 2008 he moved back to his native São Paulo for SE Palmeiras for free . With Palmeiras, under coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo , he finished fourth in the Brazilian championship and qualified for the Copa Libertadores . He scored three league goals in 27 games. At the end of the year he left the club on a free transfer.

At the beginning of 2009 he trained briefly in England with the Premier League club Bolton Wanderers , but there was no contract. Later in January he moved to the state champion of the Brazilian state of Goiás , the Itumbiara EC , to support them in defending their title.

In June 2009 he signed a contract for the second half of the season with Hai Phong Cement in the Vietnamese V.League 1 . The former Brazilian world star has terminated his contract with Hai Phong Cement after just one game, one goal and an injury to his right leg. As a result, he has been under contract with the Greek first division club AO Kavala since January 2010 . In April 2010, however, because of his poor fitness and the lack of will to change anything, his club gave him clearance without even playing a minute.

National team

After his first cup win with the Brazilian national team in the Confederations Cup in 1997 against Australia (6-0) - Denilson was awarded the Golden Shoe as the best tournament player in this tournament - he was runner-up in 1998 in France. His other successes include the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea, where Brazil emerged as world champion ( Soccer World Cup 2002 / Brazil ). Overall, Denilson was substituted on eleven times in twelve games at the 1998 and 2002 World Championships. He was only in the starting line-up in the ultimately insignificant 1: 2 in the 1998 preliminary round against Norway. In the 2002 final against Germany he came in the 90th minute for the two-time scorer Ronaldo. In addition, Denilson was seen appearing in various Nike football commercials during the World Cup .

Quote

  • I'm twice as good as number 10 when asked why he picked number 20 on the Brazilian national team, based on Rivaldo , who was number 10 back then .
