Simon Jentzsch (born May 4, 1976 in Düsseldorf ) is a former German soccer goalkeeper and today's coach .
Life
Simon Jentzsch is the son of the German soccer coach Werner Jentzsch (including TuS Homberg) and an Englishwoman. He grew up around the British military barracks in Brüggen on the Lower Rhine and is also a citizen of Great Britain .
career
As a player
In his youth, Jentzsch played at SC Waldniel from 1982 to 1991, from 1991 to 1993 at 1. FC Mönchengladbach , from January to September 1992 at VVV-Venlo and from 1993 to 1994 at KFC Uerdingen 05 .
In his first professional years in Uerdingen he could not assert himself, at Karlsruher SC he made the breakthrough and became a regular goalkeeper. He then played for the TSV 1860 Munich before the 2003-04 season for VfL Wolfsburg moved. In December 2004 he was part of the German national team during the trip to Asia, but was not used.
After moderate performance in the preliminary round of the 2007/08 season , Jentzsch was retired by Wolfsburg coach Felix Magath during the winter break . His successor as a regular goalkeeper was the Swiss international Diego Benaglio . In the 2008/09 season Jentzsch was no longer part of the squad, on March 31, 2009 his contract was terminated by mutual agreement.
In June 2009 Jentzsch signed a one-year contract with the second division club FC Augsburg . In November the contract was extended by a year after Jentzsch had become the undisputed regular goalkeeper. In May 2011 Augsburg rose to the Bundesliga for the first time with Jentzsch . On May 13, 2013, he announced his retirement at the end of the season. The reason was an injury to his right ring finger in October 2011, from which he did not recover properly.
As a trainer
For the 2014/15 season, Jentzsch was goalkeeping coach at Fortuna Düsseldorf . Jentzsch terminated his contract at the end of the 2015/16 season for private reasons.
