Eric Jeremy Edgar Dier (born January 15, 1994 in Cheltenham ) is an English football player . He is under contract with Tottenham Hotspur and is an England international.

Dier left Cheltenham , the city ​​of his birth, at the age of ten because his mother worked in Portugal during the 2004 European Football Championship . His schoolteacher at the time noticed his footballing skills. Since he had contacts with scouts from Sporting Lisbon , Dier soon played in the club's youth. In 2010 his parents returned to England, but Dier stayed in Portugal to live in the club's youth academy. In April 2010 he signed his first professional contract. In the first group game against Russia , he gave his team a 1-0 lead with a direct free kick. In the round of 16 against Iceland he was substituted at half time; the game was lost 1: 2.

Dier comes from a sports-loving family. His grandfather Ted Croker was Secretary General of the FA and President of Cheltenham Town Football Club from 1973 to 1989 . He is also the great-nephew of Peter Croker , who worked for Charlton Athletic . His father Jeremy was a professional tennis player.

On March 4, 2020, Dier was also noticed outside of the sports news around the world when he climbed the grandstand of the stadium after his Spurs' FA Cup home game against Norwich to attack a fan who is said to have had a clash with his brother. There was a scuffle with stewards and fans.
