Gedson Carvalho Fernandes (born January 9, 1999 in São Tomé , São Tomé and Príncipe ) is a Portuguese football player . He is on loan from Benfica Lisbon to Tottenham Hotspur and is a Portuguese international. He holds the Portuguese citizenship as well as the citizenship of his country of birth.
Career
society
Fernandes started playing football at the Portuguese club SC Frielas. As a ten year old he moved to the youth department of Benfica Lisbon ; his former club is said to have received 250 euros and 25 footballs for him. At the end of his training, he reached the final of the UEFA Youth League 2016/17 with the A-youth Benficas , where the team lost to FC Salzburg .
After appearances for the reserve, the striker also played for the first team from the 2018/19 season . In addition to the domestic league, he was also used in the cup , the league cup and the European cup. In spring 2019, Fernandes and Benfica were eliminated in the quarter-finals of the Europa League against Eintracht Frankfurt , but was able to win the national championship title with the club.
In mid-January 2020 Fernandes was awarded to Tottenham Hotspur in the English Premier League . The loan deal is valid until the end of the 2020/21 season and then includes a purchase option.

On September 6, 2018 debuted U17 European Champion of 2016 as part of a friendly match against Croatia under coach Fernando Santos in the senior national team of Portugal .
