Moussa Sissoko (born August 16, 1989 in Le Blanc-Mesnil ) is a French football player .

Club career

Moussa Sissoko came to football by chance: in the summer of 2003, he accompanied a friend to a youth screening day organized by Toulouse FC in La Courneuve . In the course of that day, Sissoko, who had not previously been a member of a club, was asked to take part in a training game to fill one of the teams. Immediately afterwards, Toulouse brought the not yet 14-year-old to his training center.

After only eight appearances for the reserve team in the fourth-class Championnat de France Amateur , then coach Élie Baup Sissoko started in the first division of the TFC in August 2007. One of his strengths is his versatility: due to his very good technique and explosiveness - so Baup - he can be used on the right offensive wing as well as in the central defensive midfield . As a result, the youngster quickly became an undisputed regular player; By January 2013, he played 192 league games in Ligue 1 and scored 20 goals.

At the end of January 2013, Sissoko moved to the English first division club Newcastle United . In his second game for Newcastle, Sissoko scored a brace against Chelsea .

For the 2016/17 season , Sissoko moved to league rivals Tottenham Hotspur for a transfer fee of the equivalent of 35 million euros .

National team

Moussa Sissoko went through all youth teams of the French federation from the U-16 to the U-19 junior team from 2004 and from 2008 he also played in the U-21 national team, for which he scored a goal in seven games. At the beginning of August 2009, national coach Raymond Domenech Sissoko called for the first time in the squad of the French national team . In the World Cup qualifying away game against the Faroe Islands , he initially stayed on the bench, but in the second leg against the same opponent in October 2009 he made his debut as a substitute. Four days later against Austria he played his first international match in the starting line-up. Sissoko was also used regularly under Domenech's successors Laurent Blanc (in August 2010) and Didier Deschamps (from October 2012). Deschamps took him to both his 2014 World Championship squad (four appearances, one hit) and the 2016 European Championship squad . At the European Championship in his own country, he made six appearances, four of them in the starting line-up. In particular in the knockout games , he was one of France's strongest players and justified his initially controversial appointment by Deschamps in a convincing way. France Football then referred to him in its lead story as "the other winner of the European Championship" next to Cristiano Ronaldo .

For the 2018 World Cup , Sissoko was not included in the French line-up , but at the end of this year Deschamps replaced him in the last group game of the Nations League against the Netherlands after a 13-month international break. So far, Moussa Sissoko has played 62 international matches in which he scored two goals. (As of November 17, 2019)
