James David Santini (1975)

James David Santini (born August 13, 1937 in Reno , Nevada , † September 22, 2015 in Rockville , Maryland ) was an American politician . Between 1975 and 1983 he represented the state of Nevada in the US House of Representatives .

Early years

James Santini attended Manogue High School in Reno until 1955 . He then studied to 1959 at the University of Nevada ; it followed a law degree at Hastings College in San Francisco . After his admission to the bar in 1962, he began his new profession in Las Vegas . Between 1963 and 1966, Santini served in the US Army and from 1966 to 1968 he was the assistant district attorney in Clark County . For the next two years he worked as a public defender and between 1970 and 1972 he was justice of the peace in Las Vegas. He was then a district judge in Clark County until 1974.

Political career

James Santini became a member of the Democratic Party . In 1974 he was elected to the US House of Representatives, where he replaced David Towell on January 3, 1975 . After several re-elections, James Santini was able to exercise his mandate in Congress until January 3, 1983. In the 1982 elections, he no longer ran for re-election; instead, he ran unsuccessfully for the US Senate . Santini later joined the Republicans , who nominated him for the office of US Senator in 1986. In the elections, however, Santini was defeated by Harry Reid , who had also become his successor in the House of Representatives in 1983.

After the end of his political career, Santini worked as a lawyer in Washington . He also supported national and international tourism in a number of functions. Santini died on September 22, 2015, at the age of 78 in a hospice in Rockville, Maryland, of complications from esophageal cancer .
