William Woodburn

William Woodburn (born April 14, 1838 in County Wicklow , Ireland , † January 15, 1915 in Carson City , Nevada ) was an American politician . Between 1875 and 1877 and from 1885 to 1889 he represented the state of Nevada in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1849, William Woodburn immigrated to the United States with his parents. He attended St. Charles College in Maryland . After studying law and his admission as a lawyer in 1866, he began to work in Virginia City in his new profession. From 1871 to 1872 he was a District Attorney in Storey County .

In the 1874 congressional elections, William Woodburn was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington as the Republican Party candidate for the state of Nevada . There he replaced Charles West Kendall on March 4, 1875 . In Congress , he initially completed a legislative period until March 3, 1877. Then Thomas Wren took over his seat. In 1884 and 1886 Woodburn ran successfully for a return to Congress. This enabled him to complete two more terms as a congressman between March 4, 1885 and March 3, 1889.

After his time in the House of Representatives, he worked as a lawyer again. In 1892 he ran unsuccessfully to return to Parliament in Washington . William Woodburn died on January 15, 1915 in Carson City and was buried there.
