Mark Eugene Amodei (* 12. June 1958 in Carson City , Nevada ) is an American politician of the Republican Party . Since 2011 he has represented Nevada's 2nd Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives . The lawyer was previously a member of both houses of the Nevada State Legislature .

Career

Mark Amodei attended Carson High School until 1976 and then studied at the University of Nevada in Reno until 1980 . After a subsequent law degree at the University of the Pacific in Sacramento ( California ) and his admission in 1983, he began to work as a lawyer. This time was interrupted by his military service in the US Army between 1984 and 1987.

From 1997 Amodei was a Republican member of the Nevada Assembly and from 1999 to 2011 the State Senate . From 2003 to 2005 he was its president. In the 2010 election, he was defeated in his party's nomination for the United States Senate, Sharron Angle . From 2010 to 2011 he was the chairman of the Republicans at the state level.

After the resignation of MP Dean Heller , who moved to the Senate, Amodei was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the due by-election for the second congressional electoral district of Nevada , where he took office on September 13, 2011. There he is or was a member of the Justice and Veterans Committee and three sub-committees. He has always been re-elected, most recently in 2018 .
