Edwin Ewing Roberts (born December 12, 1870 in Sutter County , California , † December 11, 1933 in Reno , Nevada ) was an American politician .

Roberts taught in Hollister from 1891 to 1897 and in Empire , Nevada from 1897 to 1899 . He also studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1899. Roberts started practicing in Carson City . 1900 to 1910 he was district attorney in Ormsby County .

Roberts was elected as a Republican to Congress and represented the state of Nevada in the US House of Representatives from March 4, 1911 to March 3, 1919 . In 1918 he was no longer a candidate for a seat in the House of Representatives, but tried unsuccessfully to be elected to the US Senate . In 1920 he began practicing in Reno again in his previous profession. In 1923 he was elected mayor of the city and, after being re-elected in 1927 and 1931, held this office until his death. In 1930 Roberts tried unsuccessfully to be elected governor of Nevada. His renewed attempt to be elected to the US Senate had previously failed in 1926. He died in Reno on December 11, 1933 and was buried in the Odd Fellows Cemetery .
