Jacklyn "Jacky" Rosen (born August 2, 1957 in Chicago , Illinois ) is an American politician of the Democratic Party . Since January 3, 2019, she has represented Nevada in the United States Senate as successor to Dean Heller . She had previously served in the US House of Representatives for Nevada's 3rd Congressional District from 2017 to 2019 .

Family, education and work

Jacky Rosen graduated from the University of Minnesota . She later worked for various companies in the computer and software industry as a programmer and designer.

Rosen is married and has one daughter. She lives in Henderson , Clark County . There she is also active in her Jewish community; Among other things, she was chairman of the reform community Ner Tamid .

Political career

In the November 2016 election , Rosen was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC against Republican candidate Danny Tarkanian in Nevada's 3rd Congressional constituency. On January 3, 2017, she succeeded Republican Joe Heck , who had unsuccessfully applied for a seat in the US Senate .

In June 2017, it was announced that Rosen intends to stand against Republican mandate holder Dean Heller in the 2018 United States Senate election in Nevada . This mandate was seen as one of the few promising opportunities for the Democrats to win a seat in the Senate election, which was unfavorably structured for them. On election day she won with 50.4 to 45.4 percent of the vote over Heller, who immediately admitted his defeat.

She took up her six-year mandate on January 3, 2019.
