The Stygian Cove (English for gloomy bay ) is a small bay in the north of Signy Island in the archipelago of the South Orkney Islands . It is located immediately west of Berry Head .
The Norwegian whaling captain Petter Sørlle (1884-1933) carried out a rough mapping between 1912 and 1913, which was repeated in 1933 by participants in the British Discovery Investigations . The Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey named it after a survey in 1947. It is named after the fact that the bay is completely shaded by the steep cliffs of Robin Peak on its western edge.
