Alan Bible

Alan Harvey Bible (* 10. November 1909 in Lovelock , Nevada ; † 12. September 1988 in Auburn , California ) was an American politician of the Democratic Party and from 1954 to 1974 senator in the United States Senate for Nevada.

Bible graduated from the University of Nevada at Reno and then attended Georgetown University Law School in Washington , which he graduated in 1934.

From 1935 to 1938, Bible was a District Attorney for Storey County , Nevada. In 1938 he was appointed assistant Attorney General of the state. He held this office for four years. From 1942 to 1950 he was Nevada's prosecutor.

After a stint as a lawyer, he was elected to the United States Senate in 1954, after the death of Pat McCarran a seat for a term ending January 3, 1957. Bible was confirmed in 1956, 1962 and 1968, respectively; in the 1974 election he did not run. He represented Nevada in the US Senate from December 2, 1954 until his resignation on December 17, 1974.

During his tenure in the Senate, Bible chaired the Senate Committee on the District of Columbia (85th to 90th Senate), the Congress Joint Committee on Washington Metropolitan Problems (85th and 86th Senate), and the U.S. Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship ”(91st to 93rd Senate).

Bible died in Auburn on September 12, 1988 and was buried in Reno.
