Ernest S. Brown (born September 25, 1903 in Alturas , California , † July 23, 1965 in Reno , Nevada ) was an American politician and in 1954 briefly Republican Senator for the state of Nevada.

Life

Ernest Brown moved with his parents to Reno at the age of three in 1906, where he also grew up. After graduating from the University of Nevada in 1926, Brown studied law and then practiced in Reno. In 1933, Brown was a member of the Nevada Assembly , and in 1935 he was appointed District Attorney for Washoe County . In December 1941, shortly after the attack on Pearl Harbor , Brown joined the US Army and was promoted from lieutenant to colonel during the course of the war .

After his demotion in December 1945, Brown continued his practice as a lawyer. The death of US Senator Pat McCarran in September 1954 was the reason why Brown was appointed as his successor on October 1, 1954. He only represented Nevada in the US Senate for two months; in re-election on December 1, 1954, he was defeated by the Democratic challenger Alan Bible .

Ernest Brown died eleven years later, at the age of 61.
