Richard Bryan

Richard Hudson Bryan (born July 16, 1937 in Washington, DC ) is a former American politician of the Democratic Party . He was both governor of Nevada and representative of that state in the US Senate .

Early years and advancement

Bryan graduated from the University of Nevada at Reno in 1959 . A degree in law he reached on Hastings College of the Law of the University of California in San Francisco . In 1963 he was admitted to the Nevada State Bar. In 1964, he served as assistant district attorney in Clark County for two years . He was then until 1968 a public defender ( Public Defender ). From 1972 to 1978 Bryan was a member of the Nevada Senate . In 1979 he became Attorney General of Nevada. He held this office until 1983.

Nevada Governor and US Senator

In 1982, Bryan was elected as his party's candidate for governor of his state. After re-election in 1986, he was able to exercise this office between January 3, 1983 and January 3, 1989. On that day he resigned as governor to take up his mandate as Class 1 Senator in Congress , into which he had been elected in the previous congressional elections. After a re-election in 1994, he was able to remain in the US Senate for two terms between January 3, 1989 and January 3, 2001. There he was temporarily chairman of the Committee on Ethics . Bryan decided not to be re-elected in 2000. John Ensign received his seat . After serving as a politician, Bryan worked as an attorney in the law firm Lionel Sawyer & Collins . He has three children with his wife, Bonnie Fairchild.
