Robert Frank List (* 1. September 1936 in Visalia , California ) is an American politician of the Republican Party . He was governor of the state of Nevada from 1979 to 1983 .

List grew up in Exeter , California. He graduated from Utah State University and then law at Hastings College of Law of the University of California in San Francisco , where he received his degree in 1962 Juris Doctor made (JD) and Doctor of Laws (LLD). List was District Attorney in Carson City , Nevada from 1966 to 1970 and Attorney General of that state from 1970 to 1979 . In 1979 List was elected governor of Nevada. He held this office until 1983. Until the election of Jim Gibbons, he was the last governor who had not previously served in Clark County . During his tenure, a tax reform was implemented in Nevada that reduced property tax and increased sales tax. After leaving office, Robert List supported the plans for a nuclear repository in Yucca Mountain . He is currently CEO of the Robert List Company , a company that specializes in advising public authorities, particularly on energy issues. Robert List is married for the second time and has four children in total.
