Volperhausen Castle

Burg Volperhausen is a district of Morsbach in the Oberbergisches Kreis in southern North Rhine-Westphalia within the administrative district of Cologne . The district is named after the Volperhausen castle of the same name .

Location and description

In a rural, wooded area, Volperhausen Castle is located at the southernmost tip of the Oberbergischer Kreis. The cities of Gummersbach (38 km), Siegen (50 km) and Cologne (75 km) can be reached quickly. Neighboring Burg Volperhausen districts are Volperhausen in the north, and Zinshardt in the south.

history

First mention

Volperhausen Castle was first mentioned in 1462, and the Oberbergisches Land Tourist Association speaks on its website from the beginning of the 16th century. Originally the castle was owned by the Counts of Hatzfeldt as an outpost of their Crottorf Castle . Later it changed hands several times and is now owned by the Barons von Schorlemer .

railroad

Until 1925 there was a stop of the same name on the Wissertalbahn from Hermesdorf to Morsbach and Wissen (Sieg) , which was partially destroyed in the Second World War between Morsbach and Wissen (Sieg). It was not rebuilt in this section and was shut down soon after.
