Überholz is a village in the municipality of Morsbach in the Oberbergischer Kreis in southern North Rhine-Westphalia within the administrative district of Cologne .

It is about half an hour's bus ride from the center of the community and the administrative center of Morsbach. Überholz borders on the Rhein-Sieg district (village of Kohlberg in the municipality of Windeck ) and the district of Altenkirchen (village of Forst or Weiler Wäldchen in the community of Hamm) in Rhineland-Palatinate . Distinguish between an older part of the village, the "Höll", and a younger part to the west of it on or near the old iron road. The traditional and now also official name of the thoroughfare denotes its former function as a transport route for pig iron (?) Products from nearby pits on the Sieg. It marks a watershed on the ridge and the border with the Rhein-Sieg district. The Alte Eisenstraße connects Überholz to the north with the town of Waldbröl in the Bröltal and to the south with the neighboring Rhineland-Palatinate area.

Infrastructural facilities such as retail stores, restaurants, post offices or medical practices did not exist and do not exist. Until their disappearance from the neighboring village of Kohlberg, the opportunities offered there were used, since then the church village of Holpe has offered them as the next place . At the crossroads with the branches to Überholz and in the direction of Holpe or to Kohlberg and in the direction of Siegtal, the restaurant and bakery Krämer ("Heneschs", presumably after a founder Heinrich Krämer) was the only starting point for public entertainment on Kohlberg's side until the 1980s ). The school village responsible was Holpe. Some students from the upper Überholz visited the school in Öttershagen in today's municipality of Windeck, which was more convenient for them, with special permission .

With the exception of a small metalworking company, there are no longer commercial companies, as they occasionally emerged during the “economic miracle”, or they are run in the last generation (wood processing). The residents are usually out-commuters. They are following a long tradition. Far away from the ridge on the eastern side of which Überholz lies and on the western side of which Kohlberg lies, individual companies have increasingly made it possible for residents to do industrial wage labor alongside or instead of less profitable agriculture since the late 19th century. The work of local residents in mining goes back a long way

Originated at the end of the 19th century

  • the chipboard plant of the Bremen entrepreneur Krages in Etzbach in the Siegtal
  • the metal processing company Stahlbau Wilhelm Hermes in Rosbach in the Siegtal
  • Elmore's copper tubing plant in Schladern in the Siegtal (local: "Älmores")
  • the later Barth suitcase factory in Waldbröl, which was established at the beginning of the First World War as a "military effects factory"
  • the axle factory in Wiehl (after the name of one of the founders, they still work today “bim Kotz”).

With the exception of the axle factory, these companies have been closed since the 1980s.

Part-time farming, as it was typical until the 1970s, is no longer practiced.

Bus routes connect Überholz with Waldbröl, Holpe and Rosbach im Siegtal as the closest place to the train station.

The established population is traditionally Reformed Protestant or community Christian and oriented towards the church village of Holpe or the local community Christian club, in the 1950s / 60s the place of activity of the preacher Otto Käsgen, who was known beyond the regional area. The cemeteries in Öttershagen and Holpe are used as the final resting place. Until the 1960s, only a few Catholic families lived in the neighboring villages of Überholz and Kohlberg.

The population development is declining:

1863 68, 1964 162, 1976 195 and 2007 174 inhabitants.

history

The oldest documented evidence of the place name dates back to 1580: "In the Hoenerzetteln two fireplaces are named 'uf dem Oberhultze zu Reintzhaen'." In the "Hoenerzetteln" the taxable households ("Fireplaces") of the Honnschaft were listed, to the "Oberhultze “Belonged.

A map of Jordan from the consecration “Actual Discription. Part of the Bergische Ambts Windeck sampt abstenden Grentzen "(see above) from 1607 is called" Oberholtz "near the Alte Eisenstrasse, above a" Zach Eich am Berssieffen "(= Perseifen) and to the left of a place marked with a house called" Rentzhain " (= Reinshagen). The position on the map does not exactly correspond to the natural position.
