Louis Krages (entrepreneur)

Louis Krages (born July 29, 1875 in Bremen , † May 15, 1955 in Bremen) was a German merchant in the timber trade .

biography

Krages was the son of a carpentry master. He completed a banking apprenticeship and then worked in the timber trade. On July 1, 1901, he was a co-founder of the timber importers Krages & Zenker . In 1912 the company built a planing mill in the industrial and commercial port in Bremen . After the First World War, Krages founded and bought several planing mills and wood dealers and built his group up to a European level. During the Second World War , large parts of his company facilities were destroyed and he successfully began to rebuild his wooden empire.
Krages built and lived in the listed villa Landhaus Krages in Bremen - Horn-Lehe , Marcusallee 11, since 1925 .

His son Hermann Krages moved his residence to Chur in Switzerland , lost in stock speculation and also got into financial difficulties with the company, which, however, survived with bank assistance. A son from his second marriage was the racing driver Louis Krages (1949-2001).
