Denver S. Dickerson

Denver Sylvester Dickerson (born January 24, 1872 in Millville , Shasta County , California , † November 28, 1925 ) was an American politician and governor of the state of Nevada from 1908 to 1911 .

Early years

Denver Dickerson attended public schools in his California homeland. He then got into the newspaper business in Idaho . He later edited the White Pine News and Ely Mining Expositor newspapers. After participating in the Spanish-American War , Dickerson came to Nevada.

Political career

Dickerson became a member of the Democratic Party . In 1903 he became an administrative clerk in White Pine County . Between 1907 and 1908 he was lieutenant governor of his state. After the death of incumbent John Sparks on May 22, 1908, he ended his term as governor in accordance with the state constitution. He was governor of Nevada until January 2, 1911. During his tenure, the state's mental hospitals were restructured and reform of the prison system was envisaged. The state's railway committee was also reorganized. In 1910, Dickerson ran unsuccessfully for re-election.

Another résumé

From 1913 to 1919 and again from 1923 to 1925, Dickerson was the head of the state prison. In between he was from 1920 to 1921 overseer of the federal penal institutions in Nevada. Ex-Governor Denver Dickerson died on November 28, 1925. He had eight children with his wife Una Reilly.
