James R. Judge

James R. Judge (born September 9, 1849 in Huntingdon County , Pennsylvania , †  1912 ) was an American politician . Between 1899 and 1903 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Nevada .

Career

James Judge was the son of Irish emigrants. He attended public schools in his home country including St. Francis College , where he was trained as a civil engineer. He also worked in this profession for several years. From 1877 he was based in Nevada, where he initially worked as a land surveyor for the railroad. After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1881, he began to practice this profession. He also participated in various other companies, some of which were based in the mining industry. In doing so, he became a wealthy man. Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party . At the turn of the century he was involved in founding the Silver Party , which mainly operated in Nevada . Between 1896 and 1899 he held the office of Attorney General of his state.

In 1898 Judge was elected lieutenant governor of Nevada on the side of Reinhold Sadler . He held this office between 1899 and 1903. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . After his time as lieutenant governor, he worked again as a lawyer. He also continued his other business activities.
