Lorraine Hunt (politician)

Lorraine T. Hunt (born March 11, 1939 in Niagara Falls , New York ) is an American politician . She was lieutenant governor of the state of Nevada from 1999 to 2007 .

Career

In 1943, Lorraine Hunt came to Las Vegas , Nevada with her parents , where the parents worked in the restaurant business. In 1955, the parents opened their own restaurant and in the 1960s the family acquired another company in this branch. Lorraine Hunt attended public schools in Las Vegas including high school and then graduated from Westlake College of Music in Los Angeles . She then ran a career as a cabaret singer in various cities in Nevada, including Las Vegas. In Las Vegas, she also got into the real estate business. She has been running her own restaurant there since 1972.

Politically, Hunt joined the Republican Party . In 1994 she was elected to the Clark County County Council. In 1998 she was elected lieutenant governor of the state of Nevada alongside Kenny Guinn . She held this office after being re-elected between 1999 and 2007. She was Deputy Governor and Chairwoman of the State Senate . Further confirmation was not possible for constitutional reasons. As Vice Governor, she was particularly committed to the economic development and tourism of her state. In 2006, she ran unsuccessfully in her party's gubernatorial election.

After the divorce from her first husband, she has been married to the entertainer Dennis Bono since 2006. Today she runs the Bootlegger Bistro , a popular nightclub and restaurant in Las Vegas. There she occasionally appears as a singer herself.
