James S. Slingerland

James S. Slingerland (* 1834 ; †  1874 in Carson City , Nevada ) was an American politician . Between 1867 and 1871 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Nevada.

Career

The sources on James Slingerland are not very rich. He lived in Yuba County , California for some time . There he was a member of the Democratic Party and sat from 1859 to 1860 in the California State Assembly . He later moved to Nevada. Apparently he left the Democrats at the time and became a member of the Republican Party . Between 1864 and 1866 he was a member of the Nevada Senate , of which he was President Pro Tempore at the time. Between 1867 and 1871 he served as Lieutenant Governor of Nevada under Henry G. Blasdel . He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. He died in Carson City in 1874, where he was also buried.
