Myron E. Leavitt

Myron E. Leavitt (born October 27, 1930 in Las Vegas , Nevada , †  January 9, 2004 there ) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1979 and 1983 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Nevada.

Career

In 1948, Myron Leavitt graduated from Las Vegas High School . He then studied journalism at the University of Nevada in Reno . He then returned to Las Vegas, where he worked for a newspaper's sports department. After studying law at the University of Utah and being admitted to the bar in 1956, he began working in this profession in Las Vegas. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . In his homeland, he was a Justice of the Peace and a member of the Clark County County Council . In 1963 a candidate for the office of mayor of his hometown failed. In 1975 he was elected to the Las Vegas City Council.

In 1978 Leavitt was elected lieutenant governor of Nevada alongside Robert List . He held this office between 1979 and 1983. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . In his capacity as Senate President, he has repeatedly resolved stalemates with his vote. Leavitt served as a district judge between 1984 and 1998. He was then a judge at the Supreme Court of Nevada until his death on January 9, 2004 .
