Henry C. Davis

Henry C. Davis (born June 18, 1848 in Vermilion County , Illinois , †  August 22, 1889 in Carson City , Nevada ) was an American politician . Between 1887 and 1889 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Nevada.

Life

Henry Davis was born on a farm in Vermillion County, Illinois and later worked as a farmer. From 1864 he worked for the railroad. From 1869 he lived in Nevada, where he worked for the Central Pacific Railroad . In 1886 he gave up this profession in favor of a political career as a member of the Republican Party .

In the same year Davis was elected lieutenant governor of Nevada on the side of Charles C. Stevenson . He held this office between January 1, 1887 and his unexpected death on August 22, 1889. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . In the 1888 presidential election , he was one of the Republican electors who officially elected Benjamin Harrison president. Henry Davis was buried with great sympathy from his state's political figures.
