Charles E. Laughton

Charles E. Laughton (born June 4, 1846 in Penobscot County , Maine , †  March 16, 1895 in Tacoma , Washington ) was an American politician . Between 1883 and 1887 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Nevada ; from 1889 to 1893 he held the same office in Washington State.

Career

Charles Laughton studied law and then practiced as a lawyer. At an unknown point in time, he came to Nevada, where he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . In 1882 he was elected lieutenant governor of Nevada alongside Jewett W. Adams . He held this office between 1883 and 1887. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . He then moved to the Washington Territory , where he became a member of the Territorial House of Representatives. After joining the Union, he was elected the first lieutenant governor of the new state. He held this office from 1889 to 1893. He was Deputy Governor Elisha P. Ferry . In Washington, too, as in Nevada, he was President of the State Senate . He died in Tacoma on March 16, 1895.
