William J. Coyle

William Jennings Coyle (born March 18, 1888 in Sutter Creek , Amador County , California , †  January 10, 1977 in Seattle , Washington ) was an American politician . Between 1921 and 1925 he was Deputy Governor of the State of Washington.

Career

William Coyle studied law at the University of Washington after graduating from Seattle High School . He also played successfully on the university's football team . After studying law and being admitted to the bar, he worked in this profession between 1912 and 1917. He was also employed by the Washington State Legislature as a Reading Clerk in 1913 and 1915 . During World War I he served as an infantryman in the United States Army . He rose to the rank of captain. For his military achievements he was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross . After the war Coyle worked in the automobile trade. In 1922 he founded the Coyle Woodruff Company , which was renamed the Wee Coyle Motor Co. in 1924 . From 1928 to 1953, in addition to his other activities, he was also manager of the Seattle Civic Auditorium .

Politically, Coyle joined the Republican Party . In 1920 he was elected Lieutenant Governor of Washington at the side of Louis F. Hart . He held this office between 1921 and 1925. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . After the end of his time as Lieutenant Governor, he no longer appeared politically. He died in Seattle on January 10, 1977.
