Brad Owen

Brad Owen (born May 23, 1950 in Tacoma , Washington ) is an American politician and was the 15th lieutenant governor of his home state from 1997 to 2017 .

Life

Owen was a member of the Washington House of Representatives from 1976 to 1979 and served in the state Senate from 1983 to 1996 . In 1996 he was a Democrat for lieutenant governor ( lieutenant governor elected) of Washington. In the elections of 2000, 2004, 2008 and 2012 he was able to defend his office. He thus acted as the deputy of the respective governor . As Lieutenant Governor, Owen was also President of the Washington Senate. In 2016 he originally wanted to run for re-election. In March 2016 he announced that he would not stand for another candidacy. He left his post on January 10, 2017. His successor was the Democrat Cyrus Habib .

In recognition of his efforts to deepen ties between Washington State and Spain , Owen was awarded the Orden de Isabel la Católica by King Juan Carlos I in 2007 . The King, who was not present himself, was represented by the Spanish Consul General Manuel Pradas Romani and the Honorary Consul Luis Fernando Esteban.

Owen is married with six children and 13 grandchildren.
