W. Lon Johnson

William Lon Johnson (born November 11, 1882 in Missouri , †  July 5, 1967 in Colville , Washington ) was an American politician . Between 1925 and 1929 he was Deputy Governor of the State of Washington.

Career

Lon Johnson was born in the Ozark Mountains in southern Missouri. He came to Washington State early on, where he attended Eastern Washington State College . He then taught as a teacher in Stevens County . After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1912, he began to work in this profession in Colville. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Between 1907 and 1912 he held a number of offices in Stevens County ( Deputy County Assessor or County Clerk ). From 1916 to 1924 he was a member of the Washington Senate .

In 1924 Johnson was elected Lieutenant Governor of Washington alongside Roland H. Hartley . He held this office between 1925 and 1929. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. After serving as lieutenant governor, he practiced as a lawyer again until 1939. After that he was district judge from 1939 to 1957. He died on July 5, 1967 in Colville. Lon Johnson was married to Iva Clara Dickey, with whom he had two daughters.
