Maurice Joseph Sullivan

Maurice Joseph Sullivan (born December 7, 1884 in San Rafael , California , † August 9, 1953 in Reno , Nevada ) was an American politician of the Democratic Party .

Maurice Sullivan attended Sacred Heart College in San Francisco . During the First World War , he served as the Adjutant General of Nevada and was the supreme commander of the state military units. From 1922 to 1932 he served in the US Army and rose to the rank of colonel . He also practiced law in Carson City .

He held the office of lieutenant governor of Nevada and thus the second highest office in the state from 1915 to 1927 and again from 1939 to 1943. Then he was elected to the US Congress in 1943 as representative of the 1st Congressional constituency of Nevada . After two years, he applied for the re-nomination of his party, but was subject to Berkeley L. Bunker . Sullivan then worked again as a lawyer in Reno until his death on August 9, 1953. He was buried in the Mater Dolorosa Cemetery .
