Clarence Clifton Young (born November 7, 1922 in Lovelock , Nevada , † April 3, 2016 in Reno , Nevada) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1953 and 1957 he represented the state of Nevada in the US House of Representatives .

Early years

Clarence Young attended the public schools of his home country and then, until 1943, the University of Nevada . During the Second World War he served in the US Army from 1943 . He was used on the European theater of war. By the end of the war he had made it to major. After the war, Young graduated from Harvard University Law School . After his admission as a lawyer in 1949, he began to work in Reno in his new profession. From 1950 to 1952 he was employed by the Washoe County Administration.

Congressman

Young became a member of the Republican Party . In 1952 he was chairman of his party's youth organization in Nevada. Since 1950 he has been a delegate at all party congresses in his home state. In 1952 he was elected to the US House of Representatives, where he replaced Walter S. Baring on January 3, 1953 . After a re-election in 1954, he was able to exercise his mandate in Congress until January 3, 1957. In the 1956 election, Clarence Young declined to run again. Instead, he ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the US Senate . His seat in the House of Representatives fell back to Walter Baring.

Another résumé

After serving in Congress, Young returned to practice as a Reno attorney. Between 1966 and 1980 he was a member of the Nevada Senate . In 1985 he became a judge on the Supreme Court of Nevada and from 1989 to 1990 he was its chairman as Chief Justice . Most recently Clarence Young lived in Reno.
