Susie Lee (born November 7, 1966 in Canton , Ohio ) is an American politician . She was first elected to the United States House of Representatives in 2018 . Lee is a member of the Democratic Party and represents the third congressional constituency of Nevada .

Life

Susie Lee grew up in Ohio with seven siblings, the daughter of a steel worker. After high school , she studied at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh . She also obtained a master's degree in public administration . She has lived in Nevada since 1993, where she mainly worked in the social field. Among other things, she founded and directed the organization After-School All Stars , which provides after-school offers for students, and was chairwoman of Communities In Schools in Nevada, an organization that helps schools better care for potential school dropouts.

Lee lives in Las Vegas with her husband and two children .

politics

In 2016, Lee competed in the Democratic primary for the 4th Congressional District in Nevada, but was defeated by the eventual winner Ruben Kihuen .

In the 2018 congressional election , Lee ran in the 3rd electoral district in Nevada, where her party colleague Jacky Rosen did not run again because she was successfully seeking a seat in the United States Senate . She prevailed in the democratic primaries with 66.9% of the vote against six other applicants. She won the general election with 51.9% against the Republican candidate , Danny Tarkanian, who received 42.8%. She took up her mandate on January 3, 2019.
