Lemuel Allen

Lemuel Allen (born April 12, 1839 in Harrison County , Ohio , †  October 24, 1918 ) was an American politician . Between 1903 and 1907 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Nevada .

Career

Lemuel Allen was born in Ohio as a descendant of English and Scottish immigrants. He then grew up in Iowa , where he attended private schools. Later he worked as a farmer and cattle breeder. From 1862 he lived in what would later become the state of Nevada. After studying law and being admitted to the bar, he began practicing this profession. He was also still active in agriculture. He served as a prosecutor for twelve years. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party for a long time . At the turn of the century he joined the short-lived Silver Party , which was particularly active in Nevada . He sat in the Nevada Assembly for a long time .

In 1902, Allen was elected lieutenant governor of Nevada alongside John Sparks . He held this office between 1903 and 1907. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . After his time as Lieutenant Governor, he worked again as a lawyer and in agriculture. He died on October 24, 1918. Since 1859 he was married to Sarah Ann Peugh, with whom he had nine children.
