Lonnie Hammargren

Lonnie Lee Hammargren (born December 25, 1937 in Harris , Chisago County , Minnesota ) is an American politician . Between 1995 and 1999 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Nevada .

Career

Lonnie Hammargren studied medicine and then worked in neurosurgery until 2005 . At the beginning of his career he also worked as a doctor for NASA . After a settlement due to medical misconduct, he declared in 2009 that he would not continue to practice his profession. But he kept his medical license. Politically, he joined the Republican Party . Between 1988 and 1994 he served on the board of directors of the Nevada System of Higher Education , which governs the state's universities. In 1994 Hammargren was elected lieutenant governor of Nevada alongside Bob Miller . He held this office between 1995 and 1999. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . In 2006, he ran unsuccessfully in his party's primary election to return to this post. Later he was Honorary Consul for Belize .

Hammargren is also known for his interest in the history of his homeland. His 1969 Castillo del Sol estate is practically a museum about Las Vegas' past . On the so-called Nevada Day , the last Friday in October every year, he gives public tours of his house, in which many relics and memorabilia from Las Vegas bygone days are on display. Since 2008 he has also added space relics to his collection. On March 31, 2007, he hosted a whimsical funeral ceremony for himself in his garage. There he was buried in a sarcophagus in a ceremony with jazz music based on the New Orleans model. Then after an hour he celebrated his "resurrection". Lonnie Hammargren has also worked in the film industry as an actor and decorator since 2000.
