Federació d'Entitats Excursionistes de Catalunya (short: FEEC ) is the largest national association of mountaineers, skiers and hikers in Catalonia .

history

The association was founded on June 26, 1910 as Lliga de les Societats Excursionistes de Catalunya . The aim is to bring skiers, hikers and mountaineers together and to promote their activities. The purpose of the association is the protection of the alpine mountains, the care and maintenance of mountain huts , the maintenance of long-distance hiking trails and the care of mountain and winter sports such as mountain running , alpinism , mountain hiking , snowshoeing , mountain biking and ski mountaineering . In 1930 the association was given its current name.

It was the first mountaineering association in Spain to be officially recognized by the International Mountaineering and Climbing Federation ( UIAA ). The FEEC is also a member of the European Trekking Association .

The FEEC maintains and operates more than 110 mountain huts in the high mountain regions of the Catalan Pyrenees (Catalan: Pirineus ). It has more than 12 regional offices with more than 400 clubs and organizations. In 2011 the FEEC had more than 70,000 members.
