Kenneth Carroll "Kenny" Guinn (born August 24, 1936 in Garland , Miller County , Arkansas ; † July 22, 2010 in Las Vegas , Nevada ) was an American professor and businessman who served as governor from 1999 to 2007 Nevada dressed.

Early years and business advancement

Kenny Guinn was born in Arkansas and raised in Exeter ( California on). He graduated from Fresno State University and Utah State University . After serving as a high school teacher for four years, Guinn moved to Las Vegas , where he was promoted to school council in Clark County within five years . He had also been a successful businessman since 1978: that year he became Vice President of what is now PriMerit Bank , and in 1987 its CEO. A year later, Guinn also became president of Southwest Gas Corporation and 1993 chairman of the board. In 1994 he rose briefly to head ofUniversity of Nevada at Las Vegas (UNLV).

Governor of Nevada

In 1998, Guinn was elected as his Republican Party candidate for the new governor of Nevada. After being re-elected in 2002, he was able to exercise this office from January 4, 1999 to January 1, 2007. During this time, Guinn was running a reform of Nevada government institutions that resulted in budget savings. Among other things, he promoted education and health policy and took care of the expansion of the infrastructure and the economic development of his state. As governor, he enjoyed a reputation as a moderate Republican and a contact for the Democrats . In the 2006 gubernatorial elections he supported Jim Gibbons , who was then also his successor in office.

Guinn had two children with his wife, Dema Quinn. He died on July 22, 2010, from falling from the roof of his Las Vegas home.
