Brian Edward Sandoval (born August 5, 1963 in Redding , California ) is an American lawyer and politician ( Republican Party ). From 2011 to 2019 he was the governor of the state of Nevada .

Life

After leaving school, studied Sandoval Law at Moritz College of Law of the Ohio State University . He also studied English and economics at the University of Nevada . After completing his studies, Sandoval worked as a lawyer in various law firms in Reno . From 1994 to April 1998 he was a member of the Nevada Assembly . In 1999 he opened his own law firm. Between January 2003 and October 2005 he was the successor of Frankie Sue Del Papa as Attorney General of Nevada; thereafter, until August 2009, Sandoval was a judge in the federal district court for the district of Nevada.

In the gubernatorial elections on November 2, 2010, Sandoval prevailed against the Democrat Rory Reid, the son of US Senator Harry Reid . As governor of Nevada, he replaced Jim Gibbons in January 2011 . In 2014 he was re-elected with over 70 percent of the vote. He is considered a moderate Republican. In the 2018 elections, Sandoval could no longer run due to a constitutional term of office. The Democrat Steve Sisolak was elected to succeed him on January 7, 2019.

Sandoval lives with his family in Reno. He is married and has three children.
