Governor of colorado

McNichols took up his new office on January 8, 1957. After re-election in 1958, he was able to remain in office until January 8, 1963. This was made possible because the term of office of the Colorado governors was extended from two to four years. During his six-year term in office, a long-term plan to expand the motorway network was planned and financed. University of Colorado staff salaries were raised. Both the state hospital and the penal institution were reformed. These two institutions had previously fallen into disrepute due to obsolescence and corruption. A new government department has been set up to manage the country's resources. Towards the end of his tenure, McNichols fell with his own party because of some unpopular measures such as B. a planned tax increase in disgrace. That was one of the reasons for his failure in the 1962 gubernatorial elections when he was looking for another term.
