Norman H. Meldrum

Norman H. Meldrum (born October 11, 1841 in Caledonia , Livingston County , New York , †  February 11, 1920 in Denver , Colorado ) was an American politician . Between 1887 and 1889 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Colorado.

Career

Nothing is known about Norman Meldrum's youth and schooling. During the civil war he served in the Union army . He was used to secure the Union Pacific Railroad . Politically, he joined the Democratic Party . Shortly before the founding of Colorado, he was a member of the House of Representatives for the Colorado Territory in 1876 . Between 1877 and 1879 he sat in the Senate of the now-established state of Colorado. From 1879 to 1883 he held the office of Secretary of State there.

In 1886 Meldrum was elected lieutenant governor of his state alongside Alva Adams . He held this office between 1887 and 1889. He was not only Deputy Governor , but also Chairman of the State Senate. As Lieutenant Governor, he introduced the bill to found Colorado State University . After the end of his time as Lieutenant Governor, Norman Meldrum no longer appeared politically. He died in Denver on February 11, 1920.
