Joseph A. Garcia (born March 21, 1957 in Lafayette , Indiana ) is an American politician . Between 2011 and 2016 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Colorado .

Career

Joseph Garcia studied at the University of Colorado in Boulder until 1979 . This was followed by a law degree at Harvard University until 1983 . In the following years he held various positions in the education sector and was the curator of several educational institutions. Between 2001 and 2006 he directed the Pikes Peak Community College ; thereafter he was President of Colorado State University in Pueblo until 2010 .

Politically, Garcia joined the Democratic Party . In 2010 he was elected lieutenant governor of the state of Colorado alongside John Hickenlooper . He was then the governor's deputy . In 2014 he was elected for a second term. On November 10, 2015, however, he announced his resignation from this position in 2016. In the future he wants to work for the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education. work. In March 2016, Governor Hickenlooper proposed the entrepreneur Donna Lynne as the new lieutenant governor. After confirmation by the parliamentary bodies of this state, she was his successor in the office of vice governor.
