Ted L. Strickland

Ted L. Strickland (born September 17, 1932 in Austin , Texas , † March 14, 2012 ) was an American politician . Between 1973 and 1975 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Colorado .

Career

Nothing is known about Ted Strickland's youth and schooling. Prior to his political career, he served in the United States Army . He then worked as a petroleum information specialist in the oil industry. Politically, he joined the Republican Party . Between 1967 and 1969 he was a member of the Colorado House of Representatives ; from 1969 to 1973 and again between 1975 and 1992 he was a member of the State Senate .

In 1972, Strickland was elected lieutenant governor of the state of Colorado. He held this office between 1973 and 1975. He was Deputy to Governor John David Vanderhoof and until 1974 Chairman of the State Senate. Since 1974, following a constitutional change, the lieutenant governor of Colorado is no longer chairman of the Senate.

Between 1983 and 1992, Strickland was President of the State Senate under the new constitution. In 1978 and 1986 he ran unsuccessfully for the office of governor. He was also active in several geology and oil associations. He was also a director of the Denver Rescue Mission and the Colorado Humane Society . Ted Strickland died on March 14, 2012.
